Things to do in West Palm Beach

We all know about Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, but there's a city about an hour north that is just as gorgeous and even more quaint. My sophomore year of college, my mom retired at 48 (Go Mom!) and wanted to move out of Atlanta to somewhere a little warmer year round. She decided on West Palm Beach and I love going down there to visit her. Flight attendants hate working the flights down there... (Nope, not gonna say why lol). So it's easy for me to have layovers in West Palm to see her. During a layover, we picked out my wedding dress and it arrived recently in my size. I still needed to go make a few alterations to it, so Tashan and I decided to make a weekend trip out of it! Going to the beach and city place are my favorite things to do here. Find out why below:

1.) Go to the Beach: (Do I even have to mention this?) Yes! Because it's amazing to visit on a clear day. The blue water stays really warm which I love! You can walk, run, and bike all along the street. The palm trees line up along the sidewalks for a nice picturesque sunset. Its a short drive over the bridge from the downtown area. If you get a hotel in the downtown area, you can also walk over the bridge to get to the beach.

2.) City Place: a great area close-by downtown. It's really fun to visit on the weekends. On Friday and Saturday night, they have live bands playing in the open pavilion area with plenty of seating and dancing space. There are tons of really cool restaurants, plenty of shopping, a nice movie theatre and a streetcar that will take you all around the bright and colorful streets.

3.) Blue Martini: My favorite restaurant in the city place area. They have great food and the vibe on Friday night is super fun. We danced all night here and we could've stayed even longer. A live band will also play your favorite songs until the DJ takes over. If you're looking for a club-ish experience, but not really a club lol then you should go here. It has a dance floor, good drinks, doesn't get super packed & the cover charge is only $5!

4.) Tri-Rail:

So I have a little story about us and the Law of Attraction. When you're flying standby, there are pros and cons just like anything else. The con is that you do not have a confirmed seat and ofcourse the major pro is that if there is an available seat, you fly free. After having a great weekend down there we decided to start early on Sunday morning to get back home for work on Monday. Well... We got to the Airport nice and early hoping that would increase our chances of getting on a flight especially since there is a flight to go home about every hour. We got through TSA pretty speedy and to our gate early. First flight- Full. Second flight-Full. Third flight-Full. We are staying calm and not getting mad about it as this is what comes with the #StandbyLife, but we are also being proactive on coming up with some alternative ideas. Should we try to connect through another city? Well that's out of the way, and flights are looking pretty full too. Should we try to fly standby on another airline? After doing the run around to American and United - those flights are also looking full. Fourth flight- Oh, it's full too. Okay now here comes a thunderstorm to top it all off. lol We eventually came up with the idea to take the train down to Miami after seeing those flights were looking pretty decent and the Tri-Rail is a life saver!!! Uber would've cost us about $80 and Tri-Rail is only $5 for a one way ticket to the Miami Airport. There was a flight at noon I really wanted to make because I saw it had a ton of seats available, the only issue being that it was almost 11 and we wouldn't make it in time. The train ride between the two airports is a little under two hours so as we are getting closer to Miami we check the flight loads to see if anything has changed. Well the 2 pm flight we were gunning for is now also showing full. But, I noticed the 12 pm flight with 25 open seats hadn't left yet. The thunderstorms worked in our favor!!! We arrived ten minutes before they started clearing standbys and we made it on the only flight to Atlanta out of South Florida that day. We were even home by 4pm! When you stay positive and work creatively, the universe has a way of making things work out for you :) We made it home with plenty of time to spare and had a successful weekend down in West Palm! & I'll be back soon to pick up my wedding dress :) Ever been to West Palm? What other recommendations do you have? Or any cool Law of attraction stories? Let me know below. Until next time!
